The Alpha and Omega — the Power of Your Decision

Jesus Before All Things

The title “Alpha and Omega” attributed to Jesus weaves throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Everything has a beginning, determined in eternity, and moving toward its foretold completion, also in eternity.

In other words, the beginning = Alpha, and the completion = Omega.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last, Rev 22:13

It reflects not only the summary of Scripture but also impacts our personal lives, from birth to death.

The Apostle John explained it as follows:

  • Jesus was the Word of God in eternity before creation.
  • He, as the Word of God, was with God.
  • He was God.
  • He was the Creator.
  • Without Him, nothing was made (Jn 1:3).

He is the final Judge (Act 10:42), until all things are subjected to Him (Rev 22:13).

For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him, John 5:22–23.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist, Colossians 1:16–17.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last, Revelation 22:13.

The titles honoring the Messiah, Jesus Christ, and as the eternal Judge, remain valid: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, Isaiah 9:6.

He is the Christ, the Savior, the Son of God!

His right to reign was foreordained. His birth was prophesied, and honor was ascribed to Him. He is the foretold Lord of Hosts, the Almighty God, the Good Shepherd, the Light in the darkness, and the image of God.

Every other name of honor under heaven was assigned to Him, establishing His role as the righteous Judge of God (Act 10:42).

Among His many titles, such as “LORD of lords” and “KING of kings,” is “Alpha and Omega,” confirming His majesty as the Alpha and Omega of God.

From the Beginning of Creation

How can the Alpha and Omega be recognized in Scripture?

In the Book of Revelation, He, the Lord, declares about Himself: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty, Revelation 1:8.

Again He says: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Revelation 1:18.

This was Jesus, born of the virgin Mary, crucified, and who died, resurrected to eternal life as the Savior of humanity, and will return as the Judge.

The Gospel of John confirms this: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made, John 1:1–3.

From the beginning of creation:

  • The Word (Jesus) existed.
  • The Word (Jesus) was with God.
  • The Word (Jesus) was God.
  • He (Jesus) was with God in the beginning.
  • All things were created through Him (Jesus).
  • Apart from Him (Jesus), nothing was made.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, John 1:1

The Significance of the Alpha and Omega

Alpha and Omega represent the beginning (A) of creation in Genesis 1:1 and the end (O) of Christ’s millennial reign: Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet, 1 Corinthians 15:24–25.

Every aspect of creation is like a snapshot of eternity. The entire universe was brought into existence to sustain life on Earth. Time, as we understand it, was also established: While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease, Genesis 8:22.

From this perspective, Earth and the universe have a designated endpoint. Afterward, a new creation will come: And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea, Revelation 21:1.

The exact moment in eternity when the devil was cast out of heaven is not specified, only that it occurred.

Jesus completed the redemption plan that had been ordained for eternity:

  • To offer salvation to humanity through His sacrifice on the cross at Golgotha.
  • His second coming (Jn 14:3) signifies both His return and a future Day of Judgment (1Pet 4:5).
  • Following this will be the 1,000-year reign, after which Christ will deliver His kingdom to the Father, marking the “O-ending” (1Cor 15:24).

The "O" as the End

Creation exists only for a limited time from its beginning to its conclusion. During this appointed time, ongoing changes occur—just as in human life.

The brief span of human life can extend into eternity, but only through the new birth (Jn 3:3) — your name was written into the Book of Life (Rev 20:12–15) before creation (Rev 13:8) as a promise. You, however, must decide if you actually want it or, like many, will reject God's promise.

There is no second chance for humanity. Everything must be decided within the God-ordained lifespan, beginning with a conversion to Christ and completed in Christ’s upward call (Phil 3:14). This mirrors an A-beginning and concludes with an O-decision for eternal life.

A new world will come, and the old one will pass away: And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, Revelation 21:5–6.

Make a life decision while you still draw your breath. Receive redemption (eternal life) through Jesus Christ (Rom 10:9-10). This is your A-beginning — the start of a new life. The entrance into the God-ordained eternal life is granted on the coming Day of Jesus' return, the O-ending (1Thes 4:16), with the upward call of Christ (Phil 3:14). For the dead in Christ will rise first, and then those alive at His coming,

For the rest of mankind, the final end is not yet.

Be among those — Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven, Matthew 10:32. And let it be said of you: Enter thou into the joy of thy lord, Matthew 25:21.
